At the age of five years, Vicki Archibald was removed from her family and sent to the Cootamundra Aboriginal Girls' Home and lived there until she was sent to work as a domestic servant at age fifteen. Archibald was later reunited with her mother, and helped care for children who were removed from their families.
Archibald's story was recorded by the National Library of Australia for the Bringing Them Home oral history project and appeared in the associated publication Many Voices: Reflections on experiences of Indigenous child separation edited by Doreen Mellor and Anna Haebich (2002).
