BiographyHistory

Jack Lovell was removed from his parents when he was about three years old and sent to Moola Bulla Native Settlement, East Kimberley. He was never able to reunite with his parents. Lovell left Moola Bulla in 1950 to work as a stockman. He established a tourism initiative in Derby in 1981 and in 1988, he won the National Tourism Award. Lovell has also worked as a trainer with the Department of Conservation and Land Management.

Lovell's story was recorded by the National Library of Australia for the Bringing Them Home oral history project and appeared in the associated publication Many Voices: Reflections on experiences of Indigenous child separation, edited by Doreen Mellor and Anna Haebich (2002).
