BiographyHistory

Ron Thorpe is a member of the Stolen Generations. Thorpe was removed from his family at the age of five from his family home in Toorak, along with his siblings. He was sent to Bacchus Marsh Orphanage and lived there until he was fifteen years old and then fostered. Thorpe was happy in both experiences, and became a musician and songwriter after receiving further education at Brighton College.

Thorpe's story was recorded by the National Library of Australia for the Bringing Them Home oral history project and appeared in the associated publication Many Voices: Reflections on experiences of Indigenous child separation, edited by Doreen Mellor and Anna Haebich (2002).
