BiographyHistory

Yvonne Mills and her siblings were removed from their family after her non-Indigenous father left them. The siblings were separated in foster care. Mills later discovered in the Department file many letters her mother had written requesting the return of her children.

Mills' story was recorded by the National Library of Australia for the Bringing Them Home oral history project and appeared in the associated publication Many Voices: Reflections on experiences of Indigenous child separation edited by Doreen Mellor and Anna Haebich (2002).
