A 'pioneer' of Postcolonial Literature studies in Spain, Doireann MacDermott has made many trips to Commonwealth countries including a visit to Australia in 1980. MacDermott's early work 'tended to focus on the settler colonies of Australia and Canada', with her studies drawing a comparison between the arrival of the Pilgrim Fathers in America and the early white setters in Australia.
