BiographyHistory

‘Publisher, theatrical agent, manager, theatre lessee, art union promoter.'

John Liddy's names was first connected with the entertainment industry in 1874 when 'he acted as ticket seller for a minstrel show in Darwin. In 1876, having established himself as a Melbourne theatrical agent and art union promoter, he began publishing the Lorgnette playbill and during the 1880s he acted as business and/or tour manager for various troupes around Australia.'

Liddly died in Brisbane in 1891, 'having moved there some time previously to manage and lease several theatres (including the Gaiety).’
