BiographyHistory

Gary Ella is a is a Gadigal man and former international rugby union player. He represented Australia on six occasions in the period 1981-1988 and throughout his career was a leading player both for New South Wales and his Sydney club team Randwick. He was the youngest of the three legendary Ella brothers, his brothers Mark and Glen, who all played rugby union for Australia in the 1970s and 1980s. Their sister Marcia also represented Australia in netball.

Since retiring from rugby, Ella has worked in coaching, both in Australia and overseas. In 2000, he was Program Manager, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Relations for the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games.
