Amy Marshall Jarrett was born in Bellingen in 1943. After her paternal grandfather died, the family was moved to Plover Island Mission. Her maternal grandfather was a healing man. Jarrett's mother died when Jarrett was twelve, and at the age of fifteen, Jarrett was taken by the Welfare and sent to Sydney's North Shore as a domestic helper looking after a doctor's wife who had a bad back.
