Peter Hall was born in Bangkok while his father was working for the Australian Information Service. He attended school at Bedales School, Petersfield, Hampshire. Hall was a cadet journalist with the Canberra Times before moving into funds management. Hall has a monetary interest in the British current affairs journals Prospect and Monocle.
Hall has been 'a Patron of the Asian Rhino Project, a Director of the International Rhino Foundation, a member of the Sydney Film Festival Council and a Trustee of the Bedales Grants Trust Fund and the ABC Trust, a UK based charity'.
