BiographyHistory

Thomas John Wright emigrated to Australia around 1855, and was employed as a compositor in Townsville. After serving as the printer of The Cleveland Bay Express, and a job printer at The Townsville Herald, he founded The Townsville Argus on 6 January 1877. In September, after the Argus merged with The Northern Standard, Wright returned to job printing until December when he purchased The Standard with R. C. Pearce.
