BiographyHistory

Carl Wyles was educated at Palm Island's state school and for a year at the Catholic school after it opened in 1938. Wyles was made to work for rations after he left school. He has worked in timber mills, shipping yards and cane fields but was never able to recover the wages paid into the Island's Trust Fund. Wyles left Palm Island and moved to Townsville because conditions on the Island were harsh and humiliating.
