BiographyHistory

Cadley Sambo is a member of the Guberin people. He spent most of his childhood moving around with his family to avoid having the children taken away by the Native Welfare, as Sambo's older sister had been. Sambo never attended school; by the age of twelve he was working as a gardener. At fifteen, Sambo was taken from his parents and placed in Mogumber. At Mogumber, he worked as the assistant baker, and sometimes worked on the farm ploughing the potato and onion fields. Sambo lasted two weeks at Mogumber before he ran away, and returned to his parents. For a while he hid out in the bush, before he moved to Coolgardie and got a job on a station nearby. The police eventually caught him, and instead of taking him back to Mogumber, they made him stay on the station until he was seventeen.
