Penny Hall's first novel was published in 1987. Since then her books have been shortlisted for the Children's Book Council and KOALA Awards, commended by the NSW and Victorian Family Therapy Association and listed in the Children's Book Council's list of Notable Books.
Penny has travelled widely and worked in offices, schools and libraries in places ranging from Hobart to Zimbabwe.
She worked as a primary school teacher-librarian for many years, but stopped working full time to concentrate on her writing in the early 1990s. Since that time she has been active in running creative writing workshops for primary and secondary students whilst also working part-time in a Sydney children's bookshop. She has also co-compiled a published list of references for teaching literacy.
