BiographyHistory

James McManus was a compositor and newspaper proprietor. On 4 November 1874 he launched The Townsville Times, and upon merger with The Cleveland Bay Express, became joint proprietor with Thomas Williams of The Townsville Herald. Acting as sole proprietor from 1 December 1876, McManus floated The Townsville Herald and Newspaper Company on 14 August 1882.
