Winnie Marlowe was born Winifred Williams. Her mother was Irene Phillips and her father was Peter Williams, they lived on Brungle Mission. After living and working in Sydney, Winnie returned to the mission to live in a little tin shack with her husband and their kids. The Welfare people told her to leave because she had moved away. The local shop owner, Steve Murphy, went to Wentworth to the Aboriginal Welfare Board to advocate, successfully, for Winnie and her family.
