BiographyHistory

Margaret Berg lived with her family on the mission at Brungle. As a young girl Margaret and her brother would go out bush with their father who taught them how to find witchetty grubs, how to access the wild bee hives for honey, and how to catch porcupine, goanna and rabbits. She also learnt to take wool from dead sheep on the nearby properties. They cleaned and hung the wool and then sold the fleece. Margaret's father was a drover which meant they travelled around a lot. As a teenager, Margaret got work as a domestic on a nearby property, but she was not paid consistently for her work and was not treated well by the family she worked for. Later, Margaret bought the Brungle shop.
