Colleen Perry was born on Sunrise Mission, Taree in 1932. Her mother was Jessie Cook from Barrington near Glouster, and her father was Joesph Ping from Karuah. At the Newcastle National Aboriginal Week in 1991, Colleen was given an award from Wollotuka Education Centre and The Newcastle Aboriginal Support Group for her commitment and fight for justice for her people.
