Dot Martin was born at Bourke in 1945. Her mother was Dulcie Dolly and her father was Jack Wilson. When she was fifteen years old the Department of Education created a position for Dot to work as a teacher's aide in Bourke. After sixteen years of married life, Dot enrolled to become a nurse. She then went on to become a community health nurse.
