BiographyHistory

Grace Coombs, nee Hickey, was born at home at Wallaga Lake. Her mother was a Brieley from Wallaga Lake. Coombs was unable to go to high school because at that time Nowra High School would not allow Aboriginal kids into the school. Three of Coombs's older siblings were taken from their family and sent to a children's home, but came back to the family in their teens. Coombs was sent to do domestic work around Terara at the age of thirteen.
