As well as a being a novelist, Karen Viggers is a wildlife veterinarian, who has worked and travelled in remote Australian regions, including the Kimberley and Antarctica. Her books often focus on contentious issues regarding animals and the natural environment, including kangaroo culling, scientific research on animals, and logging of native forests.
