BiographyHistory

Harry Hall was born on a little station called Gurarooma near Bollon in Queensland in 1924. His parents were Mary and Jack Hall.

Harry's family lived at Angledool for a time and Harry was sent to school at Brewarinna. He worked consistently throughout the Second World War including as a waterboy, shearer, butcher and station hand.

Harry was working for the Department of Main Roads (as it was then known) when he heard that the Freedom Riders would be coming to Walgett in 1965 and he became actively involved in the struggles during that time. When the Progressive Association was looking for a Chairman, Harry fell into the position and stayed with the Association for eight years.

Harry Hall was one of the inaugural members appointed to the National Aboriginal Council in Australia.
