BiographyHistory

Roy Barker was born on Brewarrina Mission, New South Wales. Barker never received any formal education, instead he learned from books and magazines his father bought the family. At the age of thirteen he left Brewarrina Mission to seek work. Barker often visited Brewarrina Mission over a twenty year period but he never went back there to live. He began to make weapons in the traditional way he had learned from elders on the Mission in his childhood and, with his wife June Barker, travelled to schools to educate children about Indigenous culture.
