BiographyHistory

Grant Ngabidj was born on the tiny island of Ngabindji between Brolga Springs and the coast of Cambridge Gulf north of the mouth of the Ord River. His mother and father belonged to the Gadjerong people. Ngabidj's mother gave him the name Wilmirr. He had a strong cultural connection to the black mouthed and striped tiger snake known as Danggamang, Yelaugiing the water goanna, and Marrimarri the pelican. His family was massacred at Ningbing and he was taken into the custody of a man named Billy Weaber with his sister.
