BiographyHistory

Lorraine Injie's mother is Joyce Injie (q.v.) and her father was Joe Injie. Before Injie started school, the family lived on the back of Injie's father's truck as they went from one station job to another. Injie went to primary school in an old tin shack near the Onslow caravan park and she lived on the reserve with her parents where Bindi Bindi now is. Her father continued to work on the stations. In 1973 Injie went to Port Hedland Senior High School and lived at the Moorgunyah Hostel. Injie began a teaching course in 1976 but her course of study was interrupted and she completed the course in 1988. She was employed as a language worker at the Pilbara Aboriginal Language Centre, before going to work for the Pundulmurra as a Coordinator of Aboriginal Language programs. Injie married Reynold Martin with whom she had a son.
