Producer, playwright, dramaturg and community artist, Richard Bladel was artistic director of Scriptworks, a company dedicated to developing new performance writing within Tasmania, from 1991 to 1998. From 1998 to 2007 he worked as artistic director of Kickstart Arts, a national leader in producing innovative mulit art form community cultural development projects.
