Among Slater's many songs is 'We'll Nail Our Colours to the Mast', which became one of Australia's most popular patriotic songs of the First World War era.
NB: Joe Slater's collaborators included: Ward McAlister, Evelyn Milwood, Maurice Dalley, Clifford Jackson, Charles Vaude, John E. Nugent and Bud McGregor. He also worked closely with arrangers such as Bert Rache and Owen Conduit.
