At Ease with the Dead, the fourth anthology of original supernatural and macabre fiction to be published by Ash-Tree Press, is a worthy successor to the previous volumes, Midnight Never Comes, Shadows and Silence, and the World Fantasy and International Horror Guild Award winner Acquainted With The Night. It also offers the largest gathering of new fiction—some thirty stories from the pens of some of the finest writers practising in the genre today (Ash Tree Press website).

y separately published work icon Shadows and Silence Ashcroft : Ash Tree Press , 2000 Z1926667 2000 anthology short story horror 'The ghost story, in its many guises, continues to thrive, despite being written off many times over the past half-century, perhaps most notably by H. R. Wakefield, one of the masters of the genre, who wrote in 1961: 'I believe ghost story writing to be a dying art.' Wakefield could not have been more wrong; and the rich legacy of such writers in the genre as Wakefield himself, M. R. James, and Robert Aickman, who were all able to hint at horror rather than spell it out, is apparent in the twenty-five stories in Shadows and Silence. There is horror here in abundance; but it is a haunting horror, which clearly demonstrates that the example given has been followed by the present day practitioners whose work appears in this volume' (www.amazon.com).

y separately published work icon All Hallows 1989 Ashcroft : Ghost Story Society , 1989-2007 Z1926758 1989 periodical horror (7 issues) All Hallows was the twice-yearly journal of The Ghost Story Society. Edited by Barbara and Christopher Roden and eventually increasing its size to over 300 pages, it was the Society's major forum for new supernatural fiction, with an average of seven stories appearing in each issue.

The journal offered a mixture of items dealing with all aspects of the ghost story world. In addition to articles dealing with authors such as M. R. James, E. F. Benson, Amyas Northcote, Eleanor Scott, Elizabeth Jane Howard, H. G. Wells, August Derleth, Robert Aickman, Walter de la Mare, and other practitioners of the genre, there was a substantial review section dealing with new publications in the field. The journal also included such sections as 'News and Notes' (new developments in the genre); 'Film News and Notes' (articles about obscure and/or overlooked authors); and 'Haunted Cinema' (a regular feature looking at classic supernatural films).
