'Night Shade Books is dedicated to publishing quality books, from a broad spectrum of genres. Writing that inspires a sense of awe and wonder. Writing that explores the fantastic. Writing that at once challenges and redefines a reader's expectations. These are the guiding editorial principles at Night Shade Books.
Night Shade has two major "lines." Its "classics" line, and its "contemporary" line. The goal of the Night Shade classics line is to bring back into print high-quality, affordable hardcover editions of deserving material that has been neglected. Our classics line also encompasses critical and scholarly books that examine classic genre authors and their work.
The Night Shade contemporary line is dedicated to publishing quality fiction by both new and established contemporary writers. This line tends to fall between the genre cracks, having no clearly defined marketing niche. It might be fantasy, it might be SF, it might be horror or suspense. Or it might be some strange combination of the above. But whatever it is, it's good.
In 2003, Ministry of Whimsy Press became an imprint of Night Shade Books. The editorial goals and standards of Ministry of Whimsy are very close to those of Night Shade. This new partnership will allow both organizations to better identify and encourage new and under-appreciated writers. The Ministry has a long and colorful history, during which it has developed a strong editorial identity. Under the stewardship of Night Shade, this tradition will continue.
Night Shade Books is dedicated to finding an audience for quality fiction that doesn't fit neatly into genre classifications. We are committed to finding the right reader for the right book, and the right book for the right reader. This is no easy task. It is, however, a very important task that we do not undertake lightly.'
