Angi Buettner completed her PhD (Cultural Studies) in 2005 at the University of Queensland, with a thesis titled 'Haunted Images: The Aesthetics of Catastrophe in a post-Holocaust World'. The thesis examined the contemporary uses of the idea of the Holocaust as it has been generalised as a metaphor in media representations of catastrophe, as well as in other locations, such as in memorials or commemorative sites.
Buettner has recently joined the University of Wellington as a lecuturer in media studies.
