BiographyHistory

Luise Anna Hercus was born in Europe in 1926 and has worked as a teacher of Sanskrit at the Australian National University. She first started studying Australian Languages in Victoria and in far western New South Wales in 1963 and has specialised in linguistic 'salvage' work. Since the 1970s she has been studying the traditions of the northern Lake Eyre basin and has translated poems from Indigenous languages into English for The Honey-Ant Men's Love Song and Other Aboriginal Song Poems (1990) and Little Eva at Moonlight Creek and Other Song Poems (1994).
