BiographyHistory

Douglas Nelson is a senior elder from Merredin in the wheatbelt region of Western Australia. He was born in the bush between the towns of Bruce Rock and Corrigin. Douglas was one of eight children and the third youngest to his parents Bill and Elizabeth Nelson (nee Parker). His mother was born at Badjaling Mission and is related to the Parkers from Onslow. When Douglas was fourteen the family went to live in Bruce Rock and he continued to work on farms around the area. He married Elsie Hayden at Djurin Mission in Kellerberrin in 1958 and had seven children. Douglas has lived in the wheatbelt area for over 70 years.
