BiographyHistory

'Laura Mooka was born on Thursday Island (Waiben) and grew up on Prince of Wales Island (Muralag), part of the Kaiwalagal Group, owned by the Kaurareg People. Her parents are originally from Mabuiag Island, in the Western Torres Strait and her heritage includes links to Wagadagam, Panai, PNG, Lakon Island, Samoa, and Old Mapoon.

In 2005, she enrolled at Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE on Thursday Island Campus to improve her computing skills. She submitted a form of artwork in their competition, 'Where Is TAFE Taking You' and was one of four winners in the State.' Laura Mooka is the sister of Carol Mooka (q.v.)
