'What I want to do in this account of three Sydney poets, Kenneth Slessor, Harry Hooten and Anna Couani is to try to map out a sense of place as might be contained in their poetics, in biographical and auto/portraits, the smell and sound and sight of a place, in the political polemics of the cold-war period, and the slide into the sixties and the digitally directed end of the millennium.'
