Peter Doyle was born in Maroubra, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. He has worked as a taxi driver, musician, and teacher: in 2018, he was Associate Professor of Media at Macquarie University.
In addition to his novels, Doyle is a critic of pop culture and music history, the author of two collections of archival forensic photographs (City of Shadows and Crooks Like Us), and the guest curator of museum exhibitions including Pulp Confidential (State Library of NSW) and Suburban Noir (Museum of Sydney). His interest in music forms a key element of his fiction.
He is not to be confused with fellow musician Peter Doyle, who was a member of the New Seekers.
