London-based Hector Macdonald has drawn inspiration for his novels from his worldwide travels. Macdonald spent his childhood in Kenya and later graduated from Oxford University. He has travelled in Central America, Africa and Australia. His stay in Australia in late 2002, when he watched the storm-ridden Sydney to Hobart yacht race, inspired his 2007 novel The Storm Prophet.
