BiographyHistory

Gordon Blackwood lived on an Aboriginal reserve called Shanty Town, outside of Geraldton near Mt Misery. His mother was Doreen Miller and her mother was Ruby Harris who was born in 1901 and was the great-granddaughter of Captain William Harris from the ship Flora. To be able to work, Gordon's mother put her children in Sister Kate's Children's Home on two occasions. Gordon spent a number of years there with his two younger brothers, Raymond and Owen.

Gordon has been involved in a range of business activities and has promoted Aboriginal ownership and participation in business ventures.
