BiographyHistory

Leslie Greener arrived in Australia in the 1920s and was a journalist in Sydney (where he edited Pix magazine) and in New Zealand. In the Second World War he joined the AIF and, while a prisoner of war at Changi concentration camp, he illustrated The Happiness Box - a book for the children in the camp written by fellow prisoner David Griffin (q.v.). Greener has written novels and children's books. Among his other works are High Dam over Nubia (Lond: Cassell, 1962), an account of Greener's archaeological work, followed four years later by another such book, The Discovery of Egypt. He is also the author of Ross Bridge and the Sculpture of Daniel Herbert (Hobart: Fullers Bookshp, 1971).
