BiographyHistory

Adbulwahab Talabani was an editor and journalist on several Kurdish publications in Iraq through the 1980s. In 1989 he established his own Kurdish newspaper called Auso [The Horizon], but this was closed down by the Iraqi government a year later. In 1992 after receiving information that his life was threatened, he and his family fled Iraq. He worked as a journalist in Syria, writing for Lebanese and London-based newspapers. His writings were banned in Iraq, and fearing for his safety even in Syria he applied to Australia for refugee status for himself and his family. Since his arrival in 1995, he has continued to write, with his work appearing in both Australian and overseas publications. [Source: Fire, Snow and Honey, pp. 75-76]
