BiographyHistory

Sami Barwari went to a boys' primary school in Barwari, and then a boys' secondary school in Sulaimani, Iraq. He served for seven years in the Iraqi army, five of them in the war with Iran. In 1991, following the Iraqi bombing of Kurdish towns and cities, he and his family fled to the Turkish border where they were detained in a refugee camp. Eventually, he and his wife and children were accepted as refugees by Australia, where they now live. [Source: Fire, Snow and Honey, p.185-205]
