yAnother BabylonSt Lucia:University of Queensland Press,2011Z17715642011selected work poetry 'In Another Babylon the poems whisper and call to each other, weaving a 'mesh of little certainties' that is boundless. Gods, myths and folk tales, be they borrowed or idiosyncratic, are the carriers of wisdom in these poems but the paradox of their message is clear. It is the truly conscious individual who is informing and informed by the cosmos. With a craftsman's care and precision, Vlanes presents his world. Directly yet subtly it enters the reader's nervous system to articulate the sheer vitality of life. With startling originality Another Babylon calls our attention to the spirit of life to reveal the place where 'our perfect self is awaiting us'. (From publisher's website)
