BiographyHistory

Ursula Stephens moved to Australia with her family in 1961and settled in Grafton, New South Wales. She completed her schooling in Grafton and then trained as a primary school teacher. Stephens later completed a Bachelor of Education through the University of South Australia while she was living in the Northern Territory. She worked for almost 20 years as a primary, secondary and TAFE teacher and then studied towards a Masters Degree in Adult Education; she converted this to a PhD in Public Administration in 2000 and gained her doctorate in 2005.

Stephens was elected to the Federal Senate in November 2001 as a Country Labor Senator for New South Wales.
