BiographyHistory

The YMCA organisation grew out of the Industrial Revolution in England in the 1840s. In Australia, early settlers founded branches of the London, England, YMCA with the first branch opening in Adelaide, South Australia, 15 March 1851. Branches in Melbourne, Victoria, and Sydney, New South Wales, followed in 1853 and in Hobart, Tasmania, in 1854.
