Cliff Coulthard left school after year 7 and worked in a variety of jobs on sheep stations, droving cattle and working for the Highways Department until he became a ranger for the Aboriginal Heritage Department. Cliff's father Clem Coulthard (q.v.) encouraged him earlier on in life to seek out employment that would allow him to maintain connections with Adnyamathanha country and be able to share his knowledge of its beauty with the wider Australian community. As a ranger, Cliff travelled extensively throughout the Flinders Ranges and recorded the many sacred sites of the Adnyamathanha. He later gained employment at the Wattle Park Teachers Centre. Cliff Coulthard was the older brother of Terrance Coulthard and the father of Damian and Kristian Coulthard (qq.v.).
