BiographyHistory

Tom Delohery (of Delohery, Craydon and Holland), Charles Bovis (of the Bovis Brothers), and Sydney Deane went into partnership on several occasions during the mid to late- 1890s. As managers/lessees, they are largely associated with the Elite Vaudeville Company. That troupe's origins begin in September 1895, when it was known as Delohery and Speed's Empire Minstrels and later as the Empire and World's Gaiety Company (Empire Theatre, Sydney). The name was changed to the Elite Burlesque, Minstrels and Variety Company when it opened in Brisbane on 30 November 1895 under the management of Delohery, Bovis and Deane.

Although the Elite Vaudeville Company was managed by Delohery, Bovis and Deane on at least two occasions, it appears to have been essentially a vehicle for Delohery, Craydon and Holland. In this respect, the Irish dance/sketch trio were generally the troupe's feature act and individually also played a dominant part in the burlesques, sketches, and first-part minstrel entertainment.
