BiographyHistory

John Cameron, O.B.E., was the brother of Mary Gilmore. He served as British Consul at Basle, Detroit, and Danzig.

Like his sister, he was first a school teacher and then a journalist. In 1896 he joined the staff of the Coolgardie Miner, and later went to South Africa as correspondent for the West Australian subsequently becoming Reuter's special correspondent with the flying columns during the guerilla stage of the Boer War.
