Monkey Baa Theatre for Young People 'was started in 1997 by a trio of actors, Tim McGarry, Sandie Eldridge and Eva Di Cesare. Monkey Baa, based in Sydney, has a national reputation for producing quality theatre for young people.'
The company's chief aims are to:
- 'Develop Australian theatre of relevance, uniqueness and vitality.'
- 'Present our work in isolated regional communities nationally.'
- 'Encourage young people to read Australian literature and experience the power of theatre, with the opportunity of viewing two different art forms expressing the same story.'
- 'Create a theatrical script suitable for young audiences that is culturally and artistically challenging.'
- 'Develop and present theatre workshop programs accessible to young people throughout Australia.'
In 2007 the company won the Helpmann Awards for Performing Arts in Australia, Best Presentation for Children for Hitler's Daughter : The Play.
