BiographyHistory

Peter Coppin was born on the banks of the De Grey river, Yarrie Station in Yarrie country and was the most senior elder for the Pilbara's Nyamal people in Western Australia's far northwest. In 1946 Coppin and many other Aboriginal people from the Pilbara led the first strike of Aboriginal workers in Australia's history.
