David Rish has been an infants and kindergarten teacher, and a Guidance Officer, all with the Tasmanian Education Department. He received his B.A. (with Honours) from the University of Tasmania in 1977, and a Diploma in Education in 1979. He also wrote Casey's Case (1995), a children's reader published as part of the Literacy Links series, as well as Stars for Stevie (2004), a text for secondary students. His radio plays, broadcast on ABC radio, include 'Quite a Nice Island' (1985), 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Party' (1986), 'Mud' (1986), 'A Marriage Made in Heaven' (1986) and 'The Tale of the Roger' (1987). His stage plays have also been performed by the Old Nick Company (Tasmania).
