'Amy Laurie's maternal grandmother was a Gurindji woman whose European name was Lucy. Lucy's daughter Alice Yarwar was Amy's mother, was given to Mulga Jim, an Aranda man, by Jim McDonald who was the owner of Kirkimbie Station, Northern Territory. Amy grew up around the station until she was twelve years of age when the station was sold and her family moved to Salt Pan.'
'When Amy was twenty, her father Mulga Jim arranged her marriage to Alec Smith. Smith was the son of an Aboriginal woman and European drover from Queensland. They joined a droving team and worked at many pastoral stations in the East Kimberleys.' A year later Alec died, Amy remarried to George Ah Kim, but he also had died around the time their first daughter was born. In fear of her daughter being taken, Amy again married to Don 'Darkie' Green, the son of an Afghan camel driver and an Aboriginal woman. With their children they lived at Rosewood Station where Amy worked as a domestic.'
'After the First World War, Amy and her husband divorced, and she married Bill Laurie and with their children lived at Kildurk, and later at Lissadell. Later they separated, but did not divorce, Amy met Leo Thomas and they moved to Kunnunurra around the early 1960s. Where Amy had lived as a single woman.' (Source: Fighters & Singers, 1985:76-89)
