BiographyHistory

Mark Ella is a Gadigal man and former international rugby union player. During his relatively brief international rugby career, which spanned the period 1979-1984, he represented Australia on 25 occasions, 10 as captain. He is widely regarded as one of the best rugby players to have represented Australia. In 2005 he was honored as one of the inaugural five inductees into the Australian Rugby Union Hall of Fame. In 1997 he was inducted into the International Rugby Hall of Fame. His twin brother Glen Ella and younger brother Gary Ella also had distinguished rugby careers.

Since retiring from rugby, Ella has had a successful career in sport administration and corporate marketing. He is co-founder and director of the award winning marketing firm the BME Agency. He is also a columnist for the Australian. Over the years he has been involved with a number of charity organisations, including StreetWork.
